"Beer, Steaks and Women"
Thank you James Jones for coining this simple phrase that so aptly describes several years of my life as a young man. And a thank you to my brother Wayne for introducing me to Jones' novel "From Here to Eternity".
So you might ask, "Why did you live like a heathen all those years?"
Easy for you to ask but much harder for me to answer in any coherent way I think. I could answer, 'I had Bad-Potty-Training' or 'I fell in with the wrong crowd in 1st grade' or 'My peers done it to me' or 'Can't I just blame somebody else- for that period of shameful living -instead of myself?'
No excuses, I did it to myself. Kids, of course, get much of their early developmental will from Mom and Dad and family but the decision to choose wrong over right is one that comes with the genes and the weakness inherent in one's psyche.
If my peers helped me run askew I'm sure I also led my share of fellow peerites down the same dumb path.
The equivalent lifestyle of the B-S-and-W approach is living in 'The Lust of the Flesh' mode. You ever done that?
Some do not live past that stupid age- or never progress beyond it -most do and become useful members of this world's society.
How well did we learn and heal from these past hard-knock lessons?
I will ask you-
Do you have a good marriage?
Do you have good kids?
Do you/did you, have a good career?
Do you have good health?
OK, Your turn…
