The Expanse

I sit and look out the windows on the twenty-fourth floor of a North Dallas hotel and observe the expanse of mankind and its influence on this small slice of the planet- the freeway with a never ending flow of travelers, some with definite destinations and some just out for the ride- the buildings that have sprung from the earth- the trees left from the ages and new ones planted- the cubicles that serve as habitats from the small apartment to the too large residence- this view of a civilization that has encapsulated us with all of its idiosyncrasies.

Looking at this vast panorama I am amazed that it all works. How is it that enough of the main staples of life are supplied in just the right amounts and at reasonable prices- the white bread, the gasoline, the toilet paper, the beer? How is it that each person, each dot on this earth, manages to eke out a living in this malaise- this multi-faceted conglomeration of truth on the one hand and confusion on the other?

'Looking For Answers', a blues song written by Susan Tedeschi has these haunting lyrics-

Lord I love you in so many ways
Lord I love you each and every day
Now is the time when I must ask you why
Why must we live and why must we die

Where is your dot in this expanse we call life? Is your destination well defined or are you just wondering along in neutral? Is it attainable? Have you properly planned and packed provisions for the journey? I'm sure we all desire to be treated with justice on this trip. Are you dealing justice to others in your daily life? Remember, the crop you sow will be the crop you reap.

Or-

are we all still just 'looking for answers?'
